Year 2011 – July

The Inauguration Ceremony of the very first training program of the LAL Training Institute was held on the 1st July 2011 with the participation of Members of the Governing Council of the LAL Training Institute, Representatives from National Apprenticeship and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA), other distinguish participants, parents and the first batch of trainees selected for the program. The LAL Training Institute is located at the Panagoda factory premises.

This program is conducted with the collaborations of NAITA. The training institute and its programs will be accredited with TVEC in order to awards NVQ Level IV certificates. Arrangements will be made to get an international recognition to the training programs of the LAL training Institute. A new training complex is under construction at the Panagoda factory premises will all modern ICT facilities.

The duration of the Automobile Technician Training Program is two years and during this period trainees are paid a special training allowance in addition to free uniforms and transportation. Those who excel in the program will be absorbed to the LAL work force.

Year 2012 – July

With the Guidance of the Governing Council of LAL Training Institute, which leads by Mr.Umesh Gautam, CEO, LAL PLC, arrangements are being made to commence four training programs for 2012 July intake.

The very first Bus & Coach Exhibition in Sri Lanka history was held at Shalika Grounds in Narahenpita, Colombo 05 on the 9th and 10th of July 2010. Models like Viking Luxury AC Coaches, Viking 54 seater, Viking 42 seater and the Stag mini bus were showcased at the exhibition.

People’s Leasing Company Ltd. (PLC) and Ashok Leyland Ltd. signed a supplier agreement for the import of 1000 Ashok Leyland buses under the Indian Line of Credit entered into by the Governments of India and Sri Lanka. The order is being part funded by the Asian Development Bank.

Sundararajan (Director – Lanka Ashok Leyland PLC),   Mr. Umesh Gautam (CEO – Lanka Ashok Leyland PLC) and Mr. D. P. Kumarage (CEO – People’s Leasing Co. Ltd) were present at the occasion.
